cerebral palsy information

UK Mixed Cerebral Palsy Compensation

About 10 percent of children with cerebral palsy suffer from a combination of two or more types. These children have both the tight muscle tone of spastic cerebral palsy and the involuntary movements of athetoid cerebral palsy. This is because they have injuries to both the pyramidal and extra pyramidal areas of the brain. Usually the spasticity is the more obvious first symptom, with the involuntary athetoid movements increasing when the child is between nine months and three years old making the presence of mixed cerebral palsy more obvious. The most common combination involves both spasticity and athetoid movements, but other combinations are also possible. The least common mix is athetoid and ataxic, however any mix of types may occur. It is possible to have a mix of spastic, athetoid and ataxic.

Other symptoms and complications of cerebral palsy may include:

  • Limited Movement of a Joint
  • Disruption of Balance
  • Loss of Motor Abilities
  • Incontinence or Bedwetting
  • Mental Impairment
  • Seizures
  • Growth Problems
  • Impaired Vision
  • Impaired Hearing
  • Impaired Sense of Touch or Pain

If you believe that your child's injury was caused as a result of a medical negligence and you would like free advice from a specialist then just complete the mixed cerebral palsy report form and a solicitor who is a member of The Law Society panel of medical negligence experts will telephone you to discuss your claim.
